Hamilton Elementary has received a 2010 Title I Academic Achievement Award from the California Department of Education. They will be recognized on April 21 at the State Title I Conference at the Disneyland Hotel Hilton in Anaheim. Congratulations to the entire Hamilton community of learners and staff for a wonderful recognition by the California Department of Education.

Some facts about NUSD schools:

  1. NUSD serves one-third of the Marin students (~ 7800)

  2. NUSD graduates 98% of its seniors each year

  3. NUSD has the lowest revenue limit in Marin County but has an API of 822 for 2009

  4. NUSD ha four of the highest performing elementary schools in Marin County - Hamilton API 847, Loma Verde API 842, Pleasant Valley API 880, Rancho API 947 in 2009

  5. NUSD has the highest performing English learners in Marin. In 2010, Hamilton received state recognition for its student performance
    • Hispanics - API = 773
    • Socioeconomically disadvantaged - API = 773
    • English learners - API = 764

  6. NUSD students STAR scores outperformed Marin County on science and math scores (% Advanced and Proficient) in 2009 in:
    • Algegra 1 - Grades 8-11
    • Geometry - Grades 9-11
    • Algebra 2 - Grades 10 and 11
    • Summative Math - Grade 11
    • Biology - Grades 9 and 10
    • Chemistry - Grade 10
    • Earth Science - Grade 11
    • Physics - Grade 11

  7. NUSD students attend college / universities as follows:

      4 Yr College 2 Yr College
    Novato HS 48% 41%
    San Marin HS 40% 49%

 


NOVATO SCHOOLS RECEIVE GARDEN GRANTS

The California Instructional School Garden Program at the California Department of Education has awarded the NUSD schools a $45,000 non-competitive garden grant. Funds will be divided among the schools based on enrollment. Grant funds may be used for garden equipment, garden supplies and teacher/school garden coordinator professional development.  Miguel Villarreal, NUSD Food and Nutrition Services Director (FANS), assisted in the garden grant process for the school district.  He was assisted by Veronica Valero, volunteer parent and Novato Live Well Network founder, along with Sandy Wollenberg, volunteer community member.    This is grant will provide another great opportunity to connect and collaborative with students, teachers, parents and FANS around wellness, nutrition and life experiences.
