NUSD SUSPENDS USE OF ALL BEEF PRODUCTS IN
SCHOOL BREAKFASTS/LUNCHES

Beef Ban: School District Spurns Red Meat, Novato Advance, CA – 2/28/2008 (beef recall) - http://www.novatoadvance.com/articles/2008/02/27/news/doc47c5b84d969eb214096105.txt

All parents are welcomed to write their comments in the Novato Advance link on what the “beef ban” decision in the Novato Schools personally means to you and your children.

Dear Parents,

The Food and Nutritional Services Department of the Novato Unified School District has suspended the use of all beef products currently being offered on the school breakfast and lunch program.

The California Department of Education issued a warning urging schools to stop serving all beef products that were deemed to have come from Westland Meat Co., the Chino-based company, which supplies beef to the federal school food and nutrition programs across the country amid allegations that it abused animals and distributed meat from weak or sick cattle.
The Food and Nutritional Department will continue to monitor this critical issue and ensure that our children are served safe, healthy and nutritious meals.

Please contact us at the Food and Nutritional Service if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Miguel Villarreal
