Elementary Breakfast and lunch menu items offered to our students meet and/or exceed the USDA federal nutritional guidelines which include meals that are less than 30% fat, less than 10% saturated fat, nutrition standards for protein, carbohydrates, and 8 other nutrients.  Fresh fruits and vegetables are offered daily.   Nutritional information for all food items offered can be found on the NUSD Website for both breakfast and lunch meals.  This information can also be printed and used to assist students and parents who are tracking dietary requirements.  In addition, FANS is designing all menus to meet SB 12 Guidelines.  Menus are sent out to all elementary households on a monthly basis printed in both English and Spanish.

Middle and High School menus are designed using feedback from our Middle and High School Focus ground and taste panels. Our staff works directly with our students and vendors to develop menus that will draw students to our Café and entice them into eating healthly.  Healthy, made fresh daily food choices like chicken wraps,turkey sandwiches and a variety of salad entrees are offered each day.  Breakfast and lunch menus items offered to our students meet and/or exceed the USDA federal nutritional guidelines which include meals that are less than 30% fat, less than 10% saturated fat, nutrition standards for protein, carbohydrates, and 8 other nutrients.  Fresh fruits and vegetables are offered daily.   Nutritional information for all food items offered can be found on the NUSD Website for both breakfast and lunch meals.  This information can also be printed and used to assist students and parents who are tracking dietary requirements.  In addition, FANS is designing all menus to meet SB 12 Guidelines.  Menus are posted at all secondary sites Cafes.

  • No trans-fats in the majority of the food products
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup products identified
  • No chocolate milk in the elementary schools (since 2006)
  • No juice offered    
  • No carbonated sodas
  • No ala carte junk food offered   
  • Whole grains used frequently
  • Dry cereals contain less than 35% sugar by weight
